What is Rosemary?

Rosemary is a perennial, evergreen herb, from the Mediterranean region. The name of Rosemary originates from the Latin word rosmarinus, meaning “dew of the sea”. It is part of the Mint family and has been used for centuries as a food, it is particularly prevalent in the Italian cuisine.

This herb was considered as sacred by ancient Romans, Greeks and Egyptians. During the English Tudor era, Rosemary symbolized fidelity and brides would give sprigs of Rosemary to bridegroom as a tradition. Inspired by these times, today’s brides are sometimes incorporating Rosemary into their custom bouquets to symbolize remembrance, fidelity and luck.

As for some other herbs, Rosemary can often be found under the form on an essential oil. Herbal Essences Rosemary & Herbs collection gives volume and shine to your hair for a radiant look.

Where does Rosemary come from?

Rosemary comes from the Mediterranean region, more specifically from Italy, Greece, South of France and Spain. Overwatering is the biggest enemy of this plant; hence it grows well in rather dry areas.

If you want to plant some in your garden, the best time to do this is Spring or Fall. But choose the spot carefully, as rosemary plants can grow to a common height of 1.5 meters!
